Visit the Acorn Inn - A Super Dog Friendly Pub in Dorset

The Acorn Inn is the perfect base for exploring the rolling hills and stunning coastline of Dorset with your dog. This 16th Century coaching inn features in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Urbervilles and is a cosy escape from the modern world that offers a really warm welcome to you and your four-legged friend.

The pub is set in the picturesque West Dorset village of Evershot and has stunning public footpaths in every direction. There are maps and directions in reception to help you to plan the perfect dog walk. Many doggy visitors enjoy taking their owners on the public footpath through the 900 acre deer park in the village. There are many other dog friendly places to visit nearby including Minterne Gardens, Yeovil Country Park, Cerne Giant, Ham Hill Country Park, Maiden Castle and Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens.

Managers Alex Armstrong-Wilson and Jack Mackenzie love dogs and have their own lovable black Labrador called Dougal who is at the pub most days. In the bar there is a water bowl and free dog treats for your dog. Dogs are welcome in all areas of the hotel with just the exception of the restaurant. This means that your dog can accompany you whilst you eat and drink in the bar, relax in the lounge, sunbathe in the beer garden or play skittles in the games room.

Dogs are also welcome to stay with guests in any of the ten individually decorated and furnished bedrooms for a supplement of £10 per dog per night. There's no maximum number of dogs that can stay but 3 small dogs is the most that they have had in one bedroom. All doggy guests are provided with a water bowl, towel, dog treats and a dog friendly guide to the local area in every room. The guide gives information about the hotel, local walks, dog friendly beaches and all the dog friendly attractions in the area. A torch is available to help you to see where you are going when dog toileting last thing at night. If guests would like their dogs to accompany them at breakfast, it is no problem to eat in the bar. The team at the pub are also happy to help with special diets for dogs, for example, if they need their food refrigerated or their medicines kept in the freezer.

Lots of dogs have stayed at The Acorn over the years with many becoming regular visitors. Alex's particular favourites include Leo the handsome Irish Wolfhound and Mabel the Bassett Hound who is a real character. One of the most memorable doggy guests was an enormous Newfoundland who needed their owner to bring their very own industrial hairdryer for when he got wet!

The Acorn Inn will make you and your dog feel so welcome you won't want to go home!
